This satellite map was taken with a common digital camera in Emmen Zoo. It does not present a part of a dessert, but the dung of penguins. With a little imagination this photo looks like a real satellite photo. 

What if...

What if this was a real location on earth? How would human colonize this region an build a city with roads, rail tracks and industrial complexes... then it could like the city "Sphenix". 

The idea to use photo's from surfaces with poop, fungus or lichen as fictional satellite images started after taking this photo from lichen. It inspired to draw Mos, a large city with 200.000 citizens. You can find Mos and some more examples here
